What to Wear to a '70s Party

If you're wondering what to wear to a '70s party, you have to be dressed in a style that is reminiscent of that time, and what we would think of today as typical dress for that era. If you ever went to a party in the '70s, you'll probably remember kids in blue jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers. On the other hand, there were those people who got all decked out in clothing that we think of as "disco era" and what we stereotype for the 1970's look. This is most likely what you would wear to a '70s party today.

You want to look the part, even though back then you might not want to have been caught dead in some of the clothing! Polyester pantsuits or flare pants and disco print shirts were popular for the disco scene. Bodysuits were in, the kind where every nook and cranny of your shape could be seen by the world!

In the '70s, men wore tight pants and shirts. They commonly wore button down shirts with the top buttons undone so they could show off their manly chests. On the less extreme side, bell bottoms were popular, and most teenagers wore them. A lot of girls wore hot pants and platform shoes or boots. It was common for men and women to wear flared hip hugger pants with embroidery or trim on the bottom seams. Fake fur in wild colors and prints was popular for vests, shoulder bags, and jackets.

For a '70s party, along with the clothes, you don't want to forget the hairstyle and jewelry to complete your look! The Mullet, Afro, Shag, and straight hair all were popular. You could wear a headband around your forehead and lots of beads around your neck. The peace symbol was in, and many people wore one around their neck. You could pin peace sign buttons to your shirt for the same effect. Long dangling earrings were popular, along with choker necklaces and mood rings.

The best place to find this clothing would be a thrift store. Even if it's not actually from the 1970s, you could put together an outfit of wild colors and prints and wear lots of beads and some tinted round sunglasses. You'll go back in time at a '70s party in an instant!
