Retro Candy Memories

Karin P., of Roxboro, NC remembers: "Growing up I was only allowed to eat candy on Saturdays, and because it was such a rare treat it was something to be excited about all week. Every Saturday after we had our dinner my father would walk me and my sister to the candy shop where we could pick out whatever we wanted. Licorice, chocolates, taffy, peanut butter, sweet, sour, salty - they had it all. Such happy memories."

Maye J., of Quincy, FL reminisces: "I have so many fond memories of my childhood candies, my favorites were Sugar Daddy, Kits, Long Boy, Squirrel Nuts, and Mary Janes. I would spend every cent I could in the neighborhoood store buying my favorite treats. The price during my time was a penny or two for a penny, I didnt go for the cany bars, but the individual candy pieces. If only they made those candies now with the same taste and flavor, I would be one happy camper. To this day I am an avid candy fan, I eat it daily."

Barbara S., of Hallsville, MO writes: "I definitely remember the penny candy since I am now in my 70's. What I really remember is the first candy a boy ever bought for me....a box of DOTS at the movie theatre. I was IN LOVE with the boy and with the candy. Every once in awhile I find a box of them but they don't taste the same. Love made them much better. By the way, I was 12 at the time....much too young to be in love."
