Retro Candy Memories
Tyler D., of Escanaba, MI remembers: "When I was growing up there was an old, rundown grocery store. They kept all of the candy behind the very small cash register counter. The owner was almost always there, and he was an older man who really enjoyed the kids that came into the store. We loved going there, because he would let us go behind the counter and choose whatever candy we wanted to buy. Then he would bag it up in a small brown paper bag for us."
Kevin G., of Jefferson, OH reminisces: "I remember sitting with my friends when we were younger enjoying the licorice pipes candy, imitating an actual pipe motion. It was so funny."
Frank M., of Staten Island, NY remembers: "Kid growing up in Brooklyn. Always going to Coney Island for food fun and candy. The best I think was when my parents ask me what kind of candy I wanted. I ask for taffy."
Cali J., of Muskegon, MI reminisces: "I remember eating those little candy circles that come stuck to the paper and I could never avoid eating the paper too.."
"When I was little, we had a lake house that we vacationed at in the summer. There was a little store right off the water, and I remember my dad letting me get some candy whenever we would go there. I would usually get Sixlets, and I still love them to this day!" - Angel C., Birmingham, AL
"I remember going with my dad on his day off he was always doing favors for friends like fixing small things or working on their car and before we would start the day we would stop at the corner drug store and he always purchased 1 vanilla bun candy bar and a package of chicklets and a coke and that was my pay for helping him that day." - Lisa K., Marion IN
"My favorite candies where the bottle caps, and dip n stick candy. I would get them everytime I when to the story. Oh! those where the days. Candy was only .25 cents for a dollar you could get enough candy to last the day. The years where late 60's and the 1970's. Those where the best years!!!!!!!!!!!!" - Leta F., Morgan City, LA
"My fondest memory of my childhood is when my father would give my brother, sister and me $1 to buy some candy at the county line store. I would buy chico sticks, tootsie rolls, mallo cups, fun dip, pixy sticks, marathon bars, and sixlets. My favorite was the mallo cup. All that gooey marshmellow filling oozing out as you bite into the thick chocolate coating. YUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMYYYYYY!!!!" - Melissa G., Sherwood, AR
