Bonomo Turkish Taffy Memories
"I remember watching a cartoon show on tv where, I believe, it was Captain Allen Swift, held forth. At the commercial, he would take a bar of Bonomo's Turkish Taffy and smack it down on the counter. Then he'd unwrap it and take a piece. Every time I got my own bar, I'd do the same thing, whap it on the table and just melt into the pleasure of that shard of taffy. I also remember the song BoNoMo Bonomo. Oh, Oh, Oh, it's Bonomo's. Mmmm. I've missed it. Vanilla was my favorite. The little Tootsie Roll size pieces never did it for me the way that whole bar, smacked against the table did." - Ellen K., Acton, MA
"Ahhh, I remember the commercials of kids smacking Turkish Taffy and breaking the bar up into small pieces. I have always been a chocolate person but would only buy the vanilla flavor." - Cindy C., Slidell, LA
"Banana or Vanilla Bonomo's Turkish Taffy. It was a nickel a bar at the local candy store. I would ride my bike there and make my puchase. Chocolate and strawberry were good but V and B were my favorites. I was patient. Bring them home dive them in the freezer and wait. Then, drumroll, crack it on the table and enjoy! Also great when left in the hot car and it went all gooey!!!" - Don A., Naples, FL
"I loved Bonomo's warm, cool, or frozen! I loved to freeze it and smack it so it'd break into chunks you could pop in your mouth. Vanilla was my favorite, followed by chocolate, then strawberry. Bananna wasn't all that good! I started searching for it again years ago and was sad to hear it wasn't made anymore." - Kim A., Moundsville
"I remember how I used to sneak out to the candy store, and buy Bonomo's Vanilla Turkish Taffy, and then put in the freezer. After it got nice and cold, I would take it out and hit against a hard surface where it would break into a million pieces. My parents wouldn't like me to eat it because "It will pull all my teeth out!" I haven't thought about this candy in over 40 years, and to taste it one more time would make me ten years old again!I even remember the slogan...B-o-n-o-m-o Bonomo, Turkish Taffy, YUM YUM YUM! By the way, not only did it NOT pull all my teeth out, but I never even got a cavity until I was in my 40's! I think Bonomo actually made my teeth stronger!" - Donna N., Ft. Myers, FL
"I remember going to Coney Island, stopping at Nathan's and pestering my parents until I got some Bonomo's Turkish Taffy... I always wanted Vanilla, because I was the ONLY one who liked it, my brother and sister liked Chocolate and had to SHARE...." - Irv S., Clermont, FL "I remember putting the Bonomo Taffy in the refrigerator until it hardened up and the cracking it into pieces to eat it. It was just great. We kids growing up in the fifties and sixties had the best candy. Glad i can still get it today." - Dennis B., Deerfiels Beach, FL
"Bonomos Turkish Taffy wasn't sold in my area growing up in the 50's and 60's so my Dad, who really knew we loved it, would get my older sister to send him a gaint box full for Christmas each year! When the box finally arrived, my other two sisters and I would just about kill each other trying to get into it. It was one of my favorite and I remeber trying to sneakily find my Dad's stash after we had already eaten our share!" - Jenny W., Marion, NC
"My first memory of Bonomo Turkish Taffy Candy was from the History Channel. I was bored one day, and I'd been flipping through stations for some entertainment. I found a documentary on candy, and I stopped to check it out. Lo, Bonomo Turkish Taffy Candy was being pulled right before my eyes. Well, after seeing it made so intimately and deliciously, I had to go try some. :)" - Kenneth C., Ruston, LA
"When I was a little boy my mom wanted to move to Tucson so she wanted to see how bad it was in the summertime. She planned a trip in mid August. I had a Bonomo Turkish Taffy that I left in the backseat of the car overnight. When I came out in the morning it was a big glob. I decided it was too hot in Tucson in August." - Tom Z., Alma, WI

Most of them include my brother and me standing at the kitchen table slapping a bar down and then opening it to unveil all the delectable pieces!! I can close my eyes and taste it. "I grew up eating bonomo turkish taffy, buying the bar and cracking it into pieces. when we would be driving around the neighborhood, she would be sure to pass this big house and tell us that this was where the owners of BONOMO TURKISH TAFFY lived. Thanks for asking me to share." - Fran W., Astoria, NY
