Baby Boomers Generation

If you’re having a 60th birthday this year, you're a baby boomer!

Baby Boomers are the generation of people in the United States who were born between 1946-1964. They make up one of the largest and most prosperous generations in U.S. history, as they are 29% of the population!Kathleen Casey-Kirschling was first baby boomer in the U.S., born one second after midnight, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA.

As a group, baby boomers have had higher income during their working years than any preceding generation. The term “boom” comes from all the births after World War II. This generation is the result of a population surge after the Depression and World War II, resulting in the addition of 75 million babies!

Growing up in the Sixties and Seventies

Those having a 60th birthday this year, will probably remember the sixties and seventies with great memories. Their taste in rock ‘n’ roll music, long hair and bohemian dress style strongly influenced the national culture. Many helped to fuel the anti-war sentiment; and their high level of political activism helped influence the unpopularity of the Vietnam War. The escalation of the war was the focus of many of the major protests during the sixties, and songs sung at these rallies became popular. I bet a 60 year old will remember I-Feel-Like-I'm-Fixin'-To-Die Rag by County Joe & the Fish.

The Summer of 1969

If you’re having a 60th birthday this year, you were 19 when the Woodstock Festival took place, and maybe lucky enough to have been there! Most Baby Boomers will remember the summer of 1969 as the summer of Peace & Love. The famous festival took place in Bethel, New York. This was a defining event in history - half a million people together for a peaceful three day concert. Today, people still come to Woodstock, New York, looking for the festival site. It actually took place sixty miles outside of town!
