Retro Candy Memories

Kimberly H., of N. Las Vegas, NV remembers: "When I was a child, my sisters and I would go down to the local super market and buy little boxes of Lemon Heads and Boston Baked Beans for $.10 each. We thought we were in heaven when we would get our $1.00 allowances. Because there was no tax, we could get 10 whole boxes! Funny though, they'd be gone before we got home."

Susan W. of Ozark AR remembers: "On Saturdays me and my mom would stop at the old country store where the floors were wooden planks rocks for steps and the old couple who ran the store always had a little brown bag with candy in it for all the kids who came in..."

"When I was small, my mom and dad would take us to a beach in the next town over from us. We loved that place because it had a huge beachhouse that sold soda and other snacks, including candy! Back at that time we didn't get soda very often, so we loved knowing that if the family was hitting the beach, that meant we were going to get things we didn't usually get. My mom would give each of us money for a bottle of pop and a snack. I always bought the large, flat pieces of taffy. I always loved that taffy and the Bonomo taffy but I could never find it after I grew up. Just recently, a local store started selling these again. In fact, I have 2 banana and 2 chocolate Bonomo taffy in my freezer right now, although it has a different brand name. I also have 5 or 6 of the large flat taffy in my refrigerator, because I bought 12 of them when I saw them at the store! Even though I'm 50, I still love that stuff!" - Diane G., Escanaba, MI

Cool that it is from Woodstock, NY too. It had candy we forgot we used to eat, very nostalgic gift. It was packed just as shown and delivered on time."
