Retro Candy Memories

"When I was just a little girl, My grandfather put me through swimming lessons, so I could learn how to swim. He said, Its always better to be safe and to know things, because one day, you might help someone and you would know what to do. My grandfather would always treat me to a surprise! He would say, Time for candy store,"Job well done!" He would take me to a store called, FAT ALBERT. It had all kinds of great sweet candies. It had astro suckers that were blue, red and yellow or in green, Pop Rocks, Salt Water Taffy, Zero Bars and the gift bags with candy and toys. It always had cool stuff. My favorite was the water game and you had to put the little rings on the poles! Yumm...and the candy rocks and the salt sticks. Those are my wonderful memories of me and candy." - Laura G., Fayetteville, GA

"Every day after school, I would run to the candy shop to enjoy the countless sweets. It was a great place to hang out with friends, and I used to spend a lot of time taking delight in what I would buy. I always tried to choose a new candy every time I went because I like to try new things. These outings left me with fond memories of my youth and the delicious taste of sweets, especially my favorite treat- Turkish taffy. I loved the rich creamy taste and would often share some with my friends." - Stacy L., Brooklyn, NY

"My memory is when I was a child buying a sugar daddy long stick for .25, and rushing to run home to the gas stove to melt it over the fire, and watch it make shapes, but the best was the burnt taste of caramel... priceless!" - Jennifer G., Las Vegas, NV

"I remember eating those styrofoam like candy that were modeled in the shape of a UFO. Sure I'd probably think they tasted dreadful now, but back in the day I savoured them!" - Brian O., Quincy, MA

"My favorite memory is riding our bikes to the corner store in the neighborhood to buy chewy sweet tarts for a dime plus always having to get tangy taffy. If I had any money left over some some small charleston chew bars." - Kim S., McHenry, IL
