Retro Candy Memories
Sharon R., of Jonesboro, GA remembers: "When I was a little girl in the fifties, my brother and I would walk to the little neighborhood store. There we would get to spend a nickel each on penny candy. Candy bars were only a nickel, so sometimes we would get a milkyway or even a Zero. I haven't seen a Zero in years! When our Mother went shopping in Atlanta, she would bring us candy from the candy counters in the large department stores. It was usually pink, yellow, white or chocolate balls filled with coconut. Those were truly "the good old days" :)"
Robin H. of City Horse Cave, KY says about the 50s: "I remember going to WV with my parents to see my grandparents. They lived in a small town and they had a 5 & dime store. We would buy the candy buttons on paper or whatever they are called haha! That was a special memory I will always have :)"
Rebecca M. of Holly Springs, MS remembers: "My memory of 50s candies are sharing them with my grandfather. =) "
Heidi J. of Sheffield Township, OH reminisces about the 50s : "I remember nickel candy. It was fun to walk into the drug store with a handful of change and pick-out 10 different candies to munch on and share with my cousin. There is an old drug store in my hometown that still carries penny and nickel candy. I love stopping in there when visiting my family so my daughter can rummage through the candy."
Michelle M. of Bradford, MA remembers this about the 50s: "I enjoyed going to the store when I was little with my parents and they gave my brother and I some change to go to the candy counter and pick put out what we wanted. Just looking at all of the candy in clear glass jars still makes my mouth water."
Kathy S. of Springbrook, WI writes: "Back in the 50's, I remember walking down to the Ben Franklin store and buying candy on a regular basis without thinking about calories, carbs, etc. like we do today..."
